This upscale health-food store is popular with shoppers who pay close attention to what they eat. It sells fresh vegetables, natural and organic specialty items, and products for gluten-free, vegan, and keto diets. Anyway, here are your payment options at Sprouts.
Frequently Used Payment Methods at Sprouts

Like other grocery stores, Sprouts gives you a few additional payment options that aren’t available at every store. You can use personal checks there as well as cash and credit cards. Its stores also have terminals that support contactless payments so you can use Apple Pay and Google Pay there as well. As always, if you’re using the self-checkout terminals in any grocery store you should check if they have signs saying that they don’t accept cash or any other payment options.
Using Other Payment Options Such as EBT and BNPL at Sprouts
Sharky’s | Klarna | Affirm | Afterpay | Sezzle | Zip | PayPal Credit | EBT | Store Gift Card | Store Credit Card |
In-store | No | Yes | Yes | No | |||||
Online | No | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
This health-food store supports more alternative payment options than other grocery stores. Like most grocery stores, Sprouts accepts EBT for purchases of qualifying items. It is enrolled in the SNAP online pilot program as well so you can also use EBT for online orders there. Whole Foods, Vons, and many other grocery stores also participate in this pilot program but some health-food stores have not signed up for it yet.
Additionally, you can also use Zip and Sezzle to split your purchase into installments at Sprouts as well and since it accepts PayPal, PayPal credit should also work there. This is noteworthy because many grocery stores don’t accept BNPL because this can result in negative publicity for them, although many shoppers use credit cards to finance their grocery purchases and that’s not considered controversial.
You should also know that like other health-food stores, Sprouts doesn’t have pharmacies in its stores but does stock lots of vitamins and supplements. It doesn’t accept CareCredit either.
More Things to Know About Sprouts
This is a premium grocery store like other health-food stores in Southern California. You’ll often see Sprouts stores in wealthy neighborhoods in West LA. While it’s a national chain, some of its competitors in my area are the most expensive grocery stores in LA. As you might expect, it stocks high-quality food as well. It’s very selective about the products it sells in its stores and its merchandise includes organic produce from local farmers.
Other Stores Where You Can Buy Health Food With Apple Pay
The best-known health-food store, Whole Foods Market created Sprouts by spinning off many of its stores to avoid antitrust issues when it acquired Wild Oats a long time ago.
Another specialized health-food store, Lassens is a regional grocery store chain that also sells lots of natural and organic foods.
The upscale grocery store Gelson’s offers several amenities. It employs chefs in its delis, has pop-up Wolfgang Pick restaurants in its stores, and also has in-store bars. It’s also a regional chain.
An upscale health-food store with several locations in the Los Angeles area, Erewhon is best known for its premium smoothies and other collaborations with celebrities.
An unique grocery store that sells lots of private-label health food, Trader Joe’s also sells a few other products such as local beers and wines.
The premium grocery store Pavilions is like an upscale version of Vons and it stocks a larger selection of health food as well.
While Grocery Outlet is a deep discount store, you can also buy some health food there for very large discounts. It doesn’t stock as much health food as a specialized health-food store, though.
