This bakery-cafe gives you more payment options than most restaurants do. You can use Apple Pay and Google Pay to pay at its restaurants and you can use these mobile wallets if you order online with its apps as well. Additionally, Panera accepts PayPal for online orders. You can even use large bills to pay in cash there, although this may depend on whether the cafe has enough change available so you should only do this if the bill’s value is close to the value of your order.

If you live in California or other states where the Restaurant Meals program is available, you can use EBT to buy food from restaurants that participate in this program. Panera doesn’t participate in the RMP, though, and it doesn’t accept EBT. If you’re looking for an alternative you can use EBT at many Subway restaurants in Southern California.

There is one additional payment option that’s available at Panera that’s not available at many other restaurants, though. Panera’s restaurants also have Amazon One terminals where you can pay by scanning your palm. The grocery store Whole Foods has these terminals as well and you might have seen clips of shoppers paying for groceries by scanning their palms elsewhere.

In case you’re wondering how the Amazon One machines work, they scan vein patterns in your palm to verify your identity and accept your payment from a linked account. These machines are not scanning the chips in credit cards, although Panera does have standard point-of-sale terminals that can do that as well.

More Things to Know About Panera

This is an upscale cafe that has a larger menu than coffee and tea shops and it’s open in the evening so you can also go there for dinner. You can also go there to get coffee and a bagel in the morning, of course. Like other cafes, Panera can serve as a gathering place where you can eat lunch with your friends or meet with business colleagues. Its cafes are relatively large and they have large indoor seating areas with tables that have enough room for groups of diners. And unlike many other fast-casual restaurants and cafes, Panera also has a few locations with drive-thru lanes.

One noteworthy thing about Panera is its charged lemonade. This cafe serves lemonade drinks that have lots of additional caffeine added to them and these beverages are similar to lemonade-flavored energy drinks. While many other cafes and bakeries serve lemonade, charged lemonade is only available at Panera.

Other Cafes and Coffee Shops Where You Can Pay With Apple Pay

While it’s best known as a coffee shop, Starbucks also sells tea and baked goods. You can buy sandwiches and several types of pastries there.

If you want donuts with your coffee, Philz Coffee also serves donuts as well as several coffee blends. You may see Philz coffee shops in upscale neighborhoods of Los Angeles.

Another upscale bakery-cafe you’ll see in wealthy Los Angeles neighborhoods is Le Pain Quotidien. It also serves baked goods such as pastries as well as sandwiches.

You can order a few baked goods such as bagels at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf as well, although it’s primarily a coffee and tea shop.

If you like bagels, Noah’s Bagels also serves many types of bagels and you can order a bagel sandwich there as well. You can also order lemonade there but it doesn’t serve caffeinated lemonade as far as I know.

The coffee and tea shop Peet’s also sells some baked goods but it’s also more of a coffee shop than a cafe.
