Mitsuwa Payment Methods

A Mitsuwa Marketplace store.

Mitsuwa, or Mitsuwa Marketplace, is a Japanese supermarket that has several locations in Southern California and a few locations in other states. It has a very large selection of high-quality, freshly prepared sushi and it also sells ramen, tropical fruit drinks, milk drinks, and other specialty items. You can also buy premium meat and seafood there and it’s noteworthy that it sells vegan beef jerky as well. It also has a store mascot which is a fairy that looks like a teddy bear. Anyway, here are the payment methods you can use at Mitsuwa.

Does Mitsuwa Accept Major Credit Cards?

Mitsuwa accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover cards. It accepts both debit cards and credit cards. It also accepts cash.

Does Mitsuwa Accept Mobile Payment Methods?

Mitsuwa accepts Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and other contactless payment methods for in-store purchases. Its self-checkout terminals accept contactless payments as well. Additionally, it appears to be using the same terminals that Vons uses and since Vons accepts PayPal and Venmo for in-store purchases Mitsuwa may be able to do that as well.

Mitsuwa doesn’t have any mobile apps, but there are a few other specialty supermarkets that don’t have mobile apps either such as Trader Joe’s. It does have an online store and you can also use third-party services such as Instacart to order groceries for delivery if you live near one of its stores.

Does Mitsuwa Accept International Payment Methods?

It’s very likely that Mitsuwa can accept JCB and UnionPay cards by processing them through the Discover network and it can probably accept RuPay global cards as well.

Does Mitsuwa Accept EBT?

Mitsuwa doesn’t accept EBT, which is unusual because other grocery stores almost always accept this form of payment. But I used the SNAP locator app to look for grocery stores that accept EBT in Northridge, Torrance, and Irvine and Mitsuwa’s stores didn’t appear on the maps even though it has locations in those cities. Grocery stores aren’t required to accept EBT and there are also some grocery stores that accept it at some but not all locations.

Other grocery stores may also participate in the SNAP Online Pilot program, which allows you to use EBT to pay for online orders. If you’re looking for an alternative, Island Pacific is an Asian specialty supermarket that does participate in this program and can accept online orders. Many other grocery stores have signed up for this program as well.

Does Mitsuwa Accept Buy Now, Pay Later?

Mitsuwa doesn’t accept Zip, Sezzle, Afterpay, Affirm, or Klarna. Many supermarkets don’t accept BNPL apps and some BNPL apps don’t allow you to use them to buy groceries either, so this isn’t unusual. Walmart is one of the few stores that sells groceries and accepts BNPL apps.

Does Mitsuwa Have Its Own Payment Methods?

Sometimes Mitsuwa runs promotional campaigns where you receive a $5 gift certificate if you spend $50 at the store. It also has passports that allow you to incrementally qualify for gift certificates by making multiple purchases. I’ve seen other restaurants and shops with similar loyalty programs but it’s less common for a grocery store to have an offer like this.

What’s Another Useful Fact About Mitsuwa?

Some Mitsuwa supermarkets have large indoor food courts with multiple restaurants and dining areas. It’s uncommon for supermarkets to have food courts, although I’ve seen several stores with pop-up coffee shops and cafes.

What Are Mitsuwa Alternatives That Accept Apple Pay?
