Walgreens Payment Methods

A Walgreens drugstore.

This pharmacy sells over-the-counter medicine, snacks, and other consumer products in addition to prescription drugs. It’s often open late as well so you can think of it like a large convenience store. Anyway, here are your payment options at Walgreens.

This drugstore supports many more forms of payment than other retailers. It has point-of-sale terminals that accept Apple Pay and other mobile wallets and its apps support payments from mobile wallets as well. Additionally, Walgreens has point-of-sale terminals that can scan PayPal and Venmo QR codes so you can use these apps for both in-store and online purchases. And you can still use personal checks, $50, and $100 bills at this drugstore as well.

This drugstore has accepted Afterpay since 2021 and you can also use Affirm and Sezzle to shop there. You can also use PayPal credit there for both in-store and online purchases. Walgreens also sells enough groceries to qualify for programs that allow it to accept EBT for in-store purchases, at least in my area. Again, this might be useful to know because this drugstore is often open late.

Unlike several grocery store chains, though, Walgreens doesn’t participate in the SNAP online pilot program and doesn’t take EBT for online orders. It does have a store credit card that’s issued by its partner Synchrony Bank, though. Additionally, like a few other drugstores Walgreens is also one of the few retailers that accepts CareCredit.

More Background Information for Walgreens

This is one of the leading pharmacy chains in the US. Like other big-box pharmacies, it also provides healthcare services and sells over-the-counter medicine. It’s also a variety store that sells frozen food, beverages, and snacks and you can buy beauty products and personal care products there as well. Major pharmacies like Walgreens and CVS are similar to big-box warehouse stores where you can buy any product you need.

Alternatives to Walgreens Where You Can Also Use Apple Pay

The other leading pharmacy chain, CVS, is Walgreens’ main rival. Its stores also sell groceries and personal care products as well as medicine.

You can also visit the pharmacy at Rite Aid or buy over-the-counter medication there. Additionally, this store has pop-up ice cream shops that sell its Thrifty ice cream and pop-up stores that sell GNC brand supplements.

If you’d prefer to visit an independently owned pharmacy instead, you can visit the Medicine Shoppe. Medicine Shoppe pharmacies sell medicine and medical devices but aren’t large variety stores like the big three pharmacy chains.

If you’re interested in supplements for gaining muscle or improving your health, you can buy them at GNC. This supplement store doesn’t sell prescription drugs or provide vaccinations like Walgreens does, though.

Another store where you can buy supplements to get into shape is Vitamin Shoppe. Like GNC, it’s a specialized vitamin and supplement store and it doesn’t operate pharmacies that sell prescription drugs.

You can buy low-cost supplements at Nutrishop. It’s another store that sells vitamins, supplements, and related products but doesn’t provide prescription drugs or vaccinations.
